How to Change Page Orientation in Canva

If you don’t know how to change to landscape in Canva, follow the below steps:

1. Visit Canva Website

Visit Canva website.

If you already have a Canva account, you can log in by clicking on the ‘Log In’ button at the top right corner of the page.

If you don’t have an account, you can sign up for free by clicking on the ‘Sign Up’ button and following the registration process.

2. Open Your Design

After logging in or signing up on Canva, you will get directed to the Canva homepage.

Look for the ‘Recent Design’ subheading on the Canva homepage. Under the ‘Recent Designs’ subheading, you will be able to see all your previous designs.

Click on the design whose page orientation you want to change. As a result of which your previous design will open.

But if you don’t have any previous design or want to create a new design and then change its page orientation.

Then click on the ‘Create a Design’ button, and a new menu with various design types will appear in front of you.

Scroll through the available design types or use the search bar to search for your desired design type.

Once you have a design type in front of you which you like, click on it. As a result of which a blank canvas will open in front of you.

Note: In this tutorial, we are changing page orientation from landscape to portrait. So, I will use a landscape design type like a banner.

3. Choose a Template (Optional)

Note: If you choose to open your previous design then you can skip this step. For people who are creating a new design like me then keep reading.

After being directed to a blank canvas, click the ‘Design’ button from the left sidebar. A library of pre-made templates will appear in front of you.

Scroll through the available options or use the search bar to search for a specific template and then click on it to apply it to the canvas.

4. Resize Your Design

Once you get satisfied with the design in front of you, it’s time to resize it.

Click on the ‘Resize’ button from the top of your screen. As a result of which a new menu will appear in front of you.

Under the ‘Custom Size’ category you will see the existing dimensions of your landscape design. To change your page orientation from landscape to portrait, you have to change these dimensions.

Either you can remove the existing Dimensions and type your own portrait dimensions (Length and breadth).

Note: If you are typing your own portrait dimensions then make sure to set the height numerical value greater than the width numerical value.

Or you can also swap the existing dimensions, which means typing the ‘Width’ numerical value in the ‘Height’ section and the ‘Height’ section numerical value in the ‘Width’ section.

After setting your new dimensions, make sure to ‘Tick’ the box in front of it.

And click on the ‘Copy & Resize’ button at the end.

If you feel that adding dimensions is a lot of work then you can skip that step and simply click on the different design format to change the page orientation.

Click on the design format under the ‘All’ category that you like the most.

Just make sure to choose a portrait design type like an Instagram story, poster, post, etc as we are changing the page orientation from landscape to portrait.

Then click on the ‘Copy & Resize’ button at the end. As a result of which a new window tab will open with changed page orientation.

5. Download Your Portrait Design

Now you can save the new design on your desktop.

Click on the ‘Share’ button from the top right corner of the screen and then on the ‘Download’ button.

As a result of which download settings will open. Set the file type to ‘PNG’ or ‘JPG’ and then click on the ‘Download’ button at the end.

Now Canva will start preparing your design for downloading.

1. Copy All The Elements

Follow step 2 explained above to know how to open a recent design or create a new one.

Once you have your desired landscape design type in front of you, it’s time to copy all its elements.

While pressing the ‘Shift’ key on your keyboard, keep clicking the different elements of the design to add it to the selection.

Then either right-click on your mouse and click on the ‘Copy’ button or use the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + C) to copy all the elements of the original design.

2. Create a New Portrait Canvas

After copying all the elements of the original design, open a new tab in your browser.

Open the Canva website once again on that new window. After you land on the Canva homepage, click on the ‘Create a Design’ button from the top right corner of the screen.

Now choose a portrait template from the available options and then click on it.

Now you will get directed to a blank canvas in front of you.

3. Paste Your Elements

In order to paste the elements which were copied earlier, either right-click on the mouse and then click on the ‘Paste’ button from the new menu.

Or use the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + V) to paste all the earlier copied elements to the new canvas in front of you.

4. Arrange The Elements

Once all the elements are pasted to the new design you will see they are not placed in a suitable manner.

That’s because they are aligned according to the landscape canvas not to the portrait one.

So you have to manually adjust the elements according to your new portrait Canvas.

While pressing the left key of your mouse, drag each element to its new position.

If you want to add new elements to the design, take the help of the left sidebar.
