But if you’re new to Canva, using frames can be confusing at first.

I remember struggling to even find the frame options when I started!

Not to worry! In this quick tutorial, I’ll show you exactly how to use frames in Canva to make your images pop.

With just a few simple steps, you can add chic frames that complement your design perfectly.

How To Use Frames In Canva

Follow the below steps to learn how to use frames in Canva:

1. Open Canva

Alright, let’s get started with Canva!

First, open the Canva website in your browser. At the top right corner of the screen, you’ll see two buttons – ‘Sign Up’ and ‘Log In’.

If you’re new to Canva, click that ‘Sign Up’ button to create a brand new account. It’s super quick and easy.

But if you’ve used Canva before, click ‘Log In’ instead. Type in the username and password for your existing account. This will log you into your Canva homepage.

And you’re in!

2. Create a Design

Once you log in, you will be redirected to the Canva homepage and now you have to create a blank canvas in order to use frames.

Click on the ‘Create a Design’ button from the top right corner of the Canva homepage. As a result of which a new menu with various design types like logos, banners, posters, flyers, etc will appear in front of you.

You can use the top search bar or scroll through the available design types to find the one that you need. Once you found your desired design type, click on it.

But if you have specific design dimensions in your mind then you can also click on the ‘Custom Size’ button from the bottom of the menu.

And then enter your dimensions (width and height), lastly click on the ‘Create New Design’ button.

3. Add a Frame

After being directed to a blank canvas, click on the ‘Elements’ button from the left sidebar. As a result which Canva library of pre-made elements will appear in front of you.

You can browse through the element categories like graphics, stickers, shapes, etc, or use the search bar to search for ‘Frame’ As I did in this tutorial.

Now the ‘Frames’ subheading will be displayed in front of you. Click on the ‘See All’ button to view all the frames.

The more you scroll down the more creative the frame will get. Click on the frame that you like the most to add it to your design.

Note: for this tutorial, I will be taking a heart-shaped frame for my design.

4. Customize Your Frame

Once you have your desired frame on your canvas, it is time to customize the frame according to your needs.

If you don’t like the color of your existing frame border, you can change it by clicking on the ‘Color’ button from the top toolbar.

As a result of which a new menu will appear, use the ‘Color Picker Slider’ or ‘Default Colors’ to find your desired color and then click on it to make changes in your frame.

Note: not all frames contain borders, so if your frame does not contain borders then you can easily skip the above step.

To make your frame smaller or bigger, click on the frame ones and a boundary box will appear around it.

While pressing the left button of your mouse, drag one of the corners of the boundary box away from the frame to make it bigger in size.

Or drag the corners closer to the frame to make it smaller in size.

5. Add Image Into Frame

After adding and customizing your frame, now we have to learn how to add images into the frame.

There are two methods of adding an image into the frame:

Either you can upload your own image and then add it to the frame.

It can be done by clicking on the ‘Uploads’ button from the left sidebar and again on the ‘Upload Files’ button to upload the photo you need from your computer to the Canva Uploads library.

Now you simply have to drag and drop the image onto your frame.

Or you can use Canva stock images, for that, you have to click on the ‘Apps’ button from the left sidebar and then scroll down to click on the ‘Photos’ button.

As a result of which Canva’s pre-made Library of stock images will appear in front of you.

Now you can either scroll through all the options or use the above search bar to search for a specific image and then drag and drop the desired image into the frame.

Note: For this tutorial, I will be using Canva stock photos.

6. Customize Your Photo

Now it’s time to customize the photo according to your liking.

To reposition your photo, double-click on the photo.

As a result of which a boundary box will appear around it. Now while pressing the left button of your mouse, drag the image from left to right or top to bottom so that it fits perfectly into the frame.

To resize your photo, drag one of the corners of the same boundary box away from the image to make it bigger, or drag the corners closer to the photo to make it smaller in size.

To edit your photo, click on the image ones and a top toolbar will appear in front of you. Click on the ‘Edit Photo’ button from the top toolbar, as a result of which the new venue will open.

Now you can click on any tools, effects, or filters that you like to change the appearance of the image inside the frame.

7. Save Your Design

After adding and customizing your frame and photo, It is time to save the results on your desktop.

Click on the ‘Share’ button from the top right corner of the screen and then on the ‘Download’ button.

Now download settings will open, set your file type to ‘PNG’ or ‘JGP’ and lastly click on the ‘Download’ button again to start the downloading process.
