How To Edit Video In Canva (Step By Step)
Follow the below steps to learn how to edit video in Canva:
1. Log In Or Sign Up In Canva
Open Canva website.
If you already have a Canva account, click on the ‘Login’ button at the top right corner of the screen and enter your email address and password to log in.
If you don’t have an account yet, click on the ‘Sign Up’ button to create a new account.
2. Open Video Template
After logging in or signing up on Canva, you will get directed to the Canva homepage.
Search for the ‘Video’ keyword in the search bar located in the middle of the Canva homepage.
As a result of which Canva’s pre-made library of video templates will appear in front of you.
Click on the template that you like the most and then on the ‘Customize This Template’ button to proceed further.
3. Add New Pages/Slides In Your Video
After choosing a template of your liking, it is time to add new pages for your design.
Click on the ‘Add Page’ button from the bottom of the screen, and as a result of which a new page will open in front of you.
Click on the ‘Design’ button from the left sidebar to get access to the Canva pre-made template library.
Now scroll through the available options and then click on the design that you like the most to add it to your new page.
Or if you are not satisfied with the stock footage present inside Canva’s pre-made templates, you can also choose to upload your own video on Canva.
To do this, click on the ‘Uploads’ button from the left sidebar and then on the ‘Uploads Files’ button.
Canva will now ask you to select a video file from your computer to upload it to your Canva uploads library.
Once your video file gets uploaded on Canva, click on it to add it to your new page.
Note: follow the above step to add as many pages as you want for your video.
4. Trim Video Clips
If you want to remove unwanted parts of a video clip, then you can also trim the video length.
First, click on the “Duration” button present at the bottom of the timeline.
Then click on the video clip that you want to trim from the bottom of your screen.
While pressing the left button of your mouse, drag the left-side handle of the video towards the right side to trim the starting of the video clip.
And if you want to trim the ending of the video clip, then drag the right-side handle of the video towards the left side.
5. Add Transitions Between Video Clips
To make your video even more creative, you can also add transitions between video clips.
Move your cursor between two video clips, as a result of which few options will appear in front of you.
Click on the ‘Add Transition’ button and a new transition menu will appear on the left side.
Choose a transition from the given options such as dissolve, slide, stack, etc, and then click on the one you like the most to add it to your design.
Note: The transition feature is only visible when more than one video clip is added.
6. Add Audio To Your Design
After trimming and adding transitions to video clips, it is time to add audio to your design.
Either use Canva stock audio by clicking on the ‘App’ button from the left sidebar and then on the ‘Audio’ button to access to Canva stock audio library.
Browse through all the audio clips or use the search bar to find a specific type of audio. Once you find an audio that you like, click on it to add it to your design.
Or if you think that most of the audios are only available to Canva Pro users and you are not getting satisfied with any of the free audios then you can also opt to upload your own audio file.
To upload your own audio, click on the ‘Uploads’ button on the left-hand sidebar and then on the ‘Upload Files’ button to browse and select the audio from your computer.
Once your audio is uploaded, it will appear in the uploads library. Click on the uploaded audio to add it to your design.
7. Add Audio Effects
After adding audio to your design, you can also apply some audio effects to make the video even more professional.
Click on the ‘Audio Soundwave’ from the bottom of the screen, as a result of which a top toolbar will appear. Click on the ‘Audio Effects’ button from the top toolbar.
Now two audio effects will appear in front of you ‘Fade In’ and ‘Fade Out’.
The ‘Fade In’ effect ensures that the audio starts at a low volume and then increases over time.
The ‘Fade Out’ effect ensures that the volume of the audio gradually starts decreasing at the end of the video.
To apply the above effects just slide the sliders from left to right.
If you want to further edit the audio then visit our blog ‘How To Edit Audio In Canva’.
8. Set Text Timing
If you don’t want your text to continue throughout the whole video then you can also set a timing for your text.
This means that you can set from which part of the video the text will start and at what part of the video it will end or disappear.
To set text timing, right-click on the text that you want to time on your design, and a few options will appear in front of you.
Then click on the ‘Show Timing’ button. This will open a text duration slide at the bottom.
Now from the text duration slide located in your timeline, you can drag the left-side handle to where you want the text to start from and drag the right-side handle to where you want the text to end or disappear.
9. Adjust The Image
If you don’t like the brightness, contrast, tint, etc of the existing image on your video then you can make some adjustments.
To change the appearance of the image, click on the image on the video that you want to change, and as a result of which a top toolbar will appear.
Click on the ‘Edit Photo’ button from the top toolbar and then the photo editing menu will open on the left-hand side. Click on the ‘Adjust’ button from the editing menu.
Now you will be able to see various adjusting tools like temperature, tint, highlights, etc.
Drag the slider from left to right to apply an adjustment.
Canva gives you the flexibility to apply as many adjustments as you want to a photo.
10. Preview Your Video
After making all the edits, click on the ‘Preview’ button from the top of the screen to see how the video looks with all your applied changes.
If anything requires adjustments, click on the ‘Close’ button from the top left corner of the screen and then make the necessary changes to the video.
If you are satisfied with the video’s preview, then you can proceed further to save the video on your desktop.
11. Download Your Design
Click on the ‘Download’ button from the top right corner of the screen to export your video. Choose MP4 as file format and quality, and click on the ‘Download’ button at the end.
Canva will now process your video with all the edits you made for downloading.
