I’ve definitely had my share of confusing splits before figuring things out.

But worry not!

In this quick tutorial, I’ll show you how to split a page in Canva along with the videos, in just a few clicks. You can then easily organize and manage lengthy content in Canva.

So, let’s dive right in!

How To Split a Page In Canva (Explained)

Below are the steps that you can follow to learn how to split a page in Canva:

1. Open a Design

Go to the Canva website and then sign up or log in to your account to get access to the Canva homepage.

Then click on the ‘Create a design’ button from the top right corner of the Canva homepage to get access to a new menu.

Now browse through the various design types like Presentations, Instagram Stories, Posters, etc., Or use the top search bar to search for your desired design type.

When you find a design type that you like, click on it and a blank canvas will open in front of you.

2. Split a Page

When the blank canvas opens, we can start splitting the page in Canva.

However, there are two ways to split a page in Canva. Let’s have a look at each of them.

a) Use Rulers And Guides

One way is to use rulers and guides to split the page in front of you.

To enable the rulers and guides option, click on the ‘File’ button from the top of your screen and then on the ‘View Settings button.

Now a new menu will appear in front of you, click on the ‘Show Rulers And Guides’ button from the new menu.

Or you can simply use the keyboard shortcut ‘Shift + R’.

Now you will notice rulers on the top and left side of your canvas. While pressing the left button of your mouse, drag the left side ruler at the middle of your canvas.

If you cannot figure out the middle of the canvas, then take the help of the top ruler.

For example, my top ruler has markings of 70. So, I will automatically come to know that the center of my canvas will be 35.

Release the mouse once you are done dragging the ruler till the 35th and then you will notice a ‘Line’ dividing or splitting your canvas into two equal parts.

This will act as a guide and split your page between two equal parts, the left side, and right side.

You can use this guide to create book covers (including front and back), foldable greeting cards, wedding cards, etc.

When you are done designing, you can simply remove the line or you can even download your design as it is, as the guideline won’t appear on the downloaded image.

b) Line Element

You can also split your canvas by adding a line element to your design.

Click on the ‘Elements’ button from the left sidebar and then search for ‘Line’ from the top toolbar.

Now Canva will show you various line options in front of you. Click on the line according to your preference to add it to your design.

Once the line is on your canvas, use the ‘Rotate’ icon to rotate the line at 90 degrees.

Then drag both endpoints of the line until it touches your canvas. Our motive is to stretch the line fully so it can act as a divider (refer to the screenshot below).

After resizing your line, drag and position it in the middle of the canvas. It will split your page into two equal parts.

To customize your line further, use the editing tools from the top toolbar.

Note: Make sure to delete the line before downloading your design otherwise the line will appear on the final downloaded image

How To Split a Video In Canva

Firstly, open a video design from your recent design section on the Canva homepage that you want to split.

When your video opens in the Canva editor, from the ‘Video Timeline’ at the bottom of the screen, click on a particular point of the video from where you want to split.

Then click on the ‘3 Dots’ icon from the timeline to get access to a new menu. From the new menu, click on the ‘Split Pages’ button to split your video into two parts.

Or simply use the keyboard shortcut ‘S’.

Now you will be able to see two video timelines at the bottom of your screen.
