To know how to slice in Canva, follow the below steps:

1. Open/ Create a Design Type

Go to the Canva website and then log in or sign up to get redirected to the Canva homepage.

If you want to slice an image of an existing design then look for the ‘Recent Designs’ section on the Canva homepage.

This section contains all your past projects. Click on the thumbnail of the design whose image you want to slice and the design will then open in the Canva editor.

Or if you want to create a new design and then slice an image. In that case, click on the ‘Create a Design’ button from the top right corner of the Canva homepage.

A menu with various design types will open in front of you. Click on the design type according to your preference and you will get redirected to the blank canvas.

Note: I will be opening a recent design for this tutorial.

2. Revert Back To Old Editor

Once your design opens in the Canva editor, click on the photo that you want to slice and a top toolbar will appear in front of you.

Note: If your design does not have an image. Then either use one from Canva stock photos or upload your own by clicking on the ‘Uploads’ button from the top toolbar.

Click on the ‘Edit Photo’ button from the top toolbar and an effects menu will open on the left-hand side.

Now I have bad news for you guys. The slice option is not available in the Canva new editor.

But worry not, you just have to revert back to the old editor to use this feature.

To do that, click on the ‘Click Here’ button present at the bottom of the side menu.

Now Canva will ask for your permission to revert back to the old editor, so click on the ‘Revert To The Old Editor’ button.

3. Slice Your Image

Now your screen will get back to normal, Again click on the image and on the ‘Edit Photo’ button from the top toolbar.

Scroll through the old editor and then click on the ‘Slice’ button.

Now Canva will ask for your permission to open the slice effects, click on the ‘Open’ button.

Four new slice effects will open in front of you such as

  • Chipped
  • Sliced
  • Minced
  • Torn

Now you can click on each slice effect to see how it looks on your image.

For example, the thumbnail of the ‘Sliced’ effect looks interesting, so let’s click on it to see how it will look on the image.

To further customize your image, click on the ‘Sliced’ effect again to open the controls.

Now you will see three controls in front of you i.e. slices, offset, and position.

You can drag the ‘Slices’, ‘Offset’, and ‘Position’ sliders left or right to decrease or increase any effect according to your liking.

After customizing your image, click on the ‘Apply’ button at the bottom.

Note: In this way, you can click on any slice effect that you like and then customize it according to your preference.

4. Download Your Image

After slicing your effect, you can proceed with downloading it on your computer.

To do that, firstly click on the ‘Share’ button from the top right corner of your screen and then on the ‘Download’ button.

From the download settings, set your file type to PNG and then click on the ‘Download’ button again to start the downloading process.

Below are a few frequently asked questions:

Does Canva Have A Slice Option?

Yes, Canva has a slice option but to access that option you have to first click on the ‘Edit Photo’ button from the top toolbar and then revert back to the old editor.

Then click on the ‘Slice button to get access to the four slice effects (chipped, sliced, minced, torn).

Now click on any sliced effect to apply it to your image. To further customize your image, click on the ‘Sliced’ effect again to open the controls (slices, offset, position).

How Do I Split a Page In Canva?

Open your design and then click on the ‘File’ button from the top of your screen and then on the ‘View Settings button.

Further, click on the ‘Show Rulers And Guides’ button from the new menu.

Now you will notice rulers on the top and left side of your canvas.

While pressing the left button of your mouse, drag the left side ruler at the middle of your canvas. In this way, you can easily split your page in half.
