Sublimation is such a fun way to make customized shirts, mugs, phone cases, and more. But if you’re new to it, the process can definitely be frustrating.

That’s where Canva comes in. Canva makes the design process super simple, even if you don’t have any graphic design experience.

In just a few clicks, you can create an amazing sublimation design from scratch. I’ll show you how to upload your own photos, add text and graphics, and arrange your design.

Before you know it, you’ll have an eye-catching print ready for sublimation!

How To Create Sublimation Designs In Canva

Follow the below steps to create sublimation designs in Canva:

1. Create Custom Design

Go to the Canva website and then click on the ‘Create a Design’ button from the top right corner of the Canva homepage.

Click on the ‘Custom Size’ button from the bottom left corner of the new menu.

Now enter your dimensions (1080 x 1080 Px) in the width and height section. Then click on the ‘Create New Design’ button to get redirected to the blank canvas.

Note: Set your design’s dimensions according to the size you want the design to appear on your sublimation blank

2. Add Elements

After getting redirected to the blank canvas, we will start by adding elements to it.

Click on the ‘Elements’ button from the left sidebar and then search for your keyword related to the sublimation design from the top search bar.

For example, I will be searching for the ‘Cat’ element for demonstration purposes.

Note: You can also take inspiration for sublimation designs from Pinterest and Google.

From the search results, click on the element that you like the most to add it to your design.

Once the element is on your design, drag the ‘Resizing’ handle inwards to make the element smaller in size. Or drag it outwards to make the element bigger in size.

After resizing the ‘Cat’ element, I have dragged it to its respective position in the canvas.

Then again from the ‘Elements’ section, search for your desired decorative element from the top search bar.

For example, I want to add a flower element to my design. So, I will search for ‘Flower’ from the top search bar.

Then drag and drop your decorative element onto the design.

Once the element is on your design, drag the ‘Rotate’ handle to rotate your image in any direction you want.

When you have your element at the desired angle, release the handle.

After rotating the element, resize and position it on your design.

Note: Follow the same process to add as many elements as you want on your design.

3. Add Texts

After adding and positioning your elements on the design, you can also add text to it.

Click on the ‘Text’ button from the left sidebar and then on the ‘Add a Heading’ button.

Note: You can also click on a ‘Font Combination’ from the text section to add it to your design.

Once the text box is on your design, start typing your desired text.

Now it’s time to customize the text to match the tone of the design.

Click on the ‘Font Style’ button from the top toolbar. Now a new menu with different font styles will appear on the left-hand side.

You can scroll through the available options or search for your desired font style from the top search bar.

Once you find a ‘Font Style’ that you like, click on it to change the existing font style of the text.

Now if you want to change the color of the text, then select the alphabets whose color you want to change.

For example, I want to change the color of the three middle alphabets of the first word. So, I will drag the cursor over those alphabets to highlight them.

After highlighting the alphabet, click on the ‘Text Color’ button from the top toolbar to change the color of the text.

Now choose a color from the default colors or use the color picker slider to create a new one.

Click on the color that you like the most to add it to your text.

Note: I want to change the color of the text to brown. So, I will click on the ‘Brown’ color.

Now select the alphabets of the second word as well to change its color.

For example, I will highlight the three middle words of the second word for demonstration purposes.

Now again follow the same steps to change the color of the selected alphabets.

Note: I have not used any uploaded images on the design. But if you want to add an uploaded image to the design, click on the ‘Uploads’ button from the left sidebar.

4. Download Your Design

After creating a sublimation design, click on the ‘Share’ button from the top right corner of the screen to download the design on your computer.

Then click on the ‘Download’ button from the new menu to open the download settings.

From the download settings, set your file type to ‘PDF Print’ and ‘Color Profile’ according to your preference.

Lastly, click on the ‘Download’ button again to start the downloading process.
