But Wait!! What is a Niche?

Ok, so if you are a newbie blogger and don’t know anything about niche and niche selection then just stick to this post, I will be guiding you through step by step method to select your blog niche.

Ok so first things first, what is a niche?

What Is A Blog Niche?

A blog niche is a well-defined topic of your blog which you gonna write about. All your content and articles will be based on that niche.

The niche is the main topic of your blog and it should target a specific audience with a similar type of interest.

If you are already ready with your niche then you can check out my step-by-step guide to Start A Blog That Will Earn At Least 1000$ Per Month.

Now you must be thinking,

Why do I need to select a specific blog niche when I can write on different topics to target more audiences?

This is the first thing that comes to mind of every blogger, don’t worry I will explain to you.

Suppose you are searching for some Health and Fitness tips, and you have two websites to select from,

Website A – This website is all about Health and Fitness, they only write about Health and Fitness.

Website B – This website is based on a general niche, they write about Health and Fitness, Finance, Lifestyle, Food, Travel, etc.

Now, which one will you choose? Of course Website A, because their niche is more specific to your search query.

So niche defines your expertise in a certain topic and this can prove beneficial for you when you compete with other blogs.

Monetization of your blog also depends upon the niche, a more specific website that targets some specific audience can be monetized easily.

And the most important thing, Google loves niche-specific sites as compared to general sites. You will definitely gonna get a boost in your Google rankings if your website is based on one single niche.

So I cannot start a blog in a general niche?

You can, but only if you have a proper team and budget. I won’t recommend beginners and newbie bloggers to go into a general niche.

How To Choose A Blog Niche?

Choosing the right blog niche is not rocket science, you just have to take care of a few things before choosing a niche for your blog.

So you have to take care of these 3 things that I am going to tell you before choosing a niche for your blog.

1. That Niche Should Be Of Your Interest

That’s the first thing that you have to look for while choosing a niche. It’s very important to choose a niche that is closer to your heart.

Everyone has their sight of interests, for eg. I love blogging, I can sit in front of my laptop and keep writing articles for hours in the blogging niche.

Why SO?

Because not only I am interested in blogging, but I also have expertise in this niche. I don’t have to do a lot of research before writing any articles.

Why it is so important to choose a niche of your interest?

Well, this is the question that many newbie bloggers have in their mind, ok I will tell you.

Blogging is not a thing that will make you rich overnight, it takes time and lots of effort. You may have to write a bunch of articles for months before you even start getting any results.

So, do you think you can write articles for months in a niche that you don’t love and don’t have expertise in? well maybe you will do that for a few days but after that, you will quit because you are not enjoying writing in that particular niche.

Also, you don’t have any expertise in that niche, you have to do a lot of research before putting out an article on your website.

That’s why to choose a niche wisely because you have to work for months on that niche.

Just ask 2 questions from you before choosing a blog niche,

Is this niche is of my interest and do I have any knowledge and expertise in this niche?

Can I work on this niche for months and create unlimited content based on my knowledge?

If these questions have an answer of “Yes” then go ahead and start working on that niche.

2. That Niche Should Have Enough Audience

Now you have finalized your blog niche by using my above tips, let’s assume that:

  • The niche is of your interest
  • You have expertise in your niche
  • You can work on that niche for months

But wait!!

Have you ever think about the audience of that niche? Do you think that niche has enough audience whom you can monetize with different monetization methods?

If you are working on a niche that nobody is interested in then you are not going to make anything from it. It’s very important to find your audience first.

Also, take care of the seasonality of your niche.

Wait!! what is seasonality?

There are some niches that come into action in a particular season. For eg., if your niche is “SKIING“, then it will only bring you traffic in winters.

We should work on niches that bring the audience to our website consistently throughout the year.

So before selecting any niche make sure that the niche should have a good amount of audience that is interested in that particular niche and also avoid season-based niches if possible.

3. Niche Should Be Less Competitive

That’s true, as a new blogger you don’t want to disappear in the crowd. If the niche you have chooses has a lot of completion in it, it means a lot of bloggers are already working on it that it is not a good option to go with that niche.

It is very hard to rank highly competitive niche websites on google as there are already tons of websites competing for that niche.

This works on the Demand and Supply concept, which means if the demand is more but the supply of content is less then you are going to make a lot of money, but it’s reverse will not give you good results.

So before selecting a niche, you should check out its competition.

How to check out whether a niche is competitive or not?

Well, if I talk about SEO competition then you can simply search your targeted keywords in that niche on google and check out the websites that are ranking for those keywords.

If the ranking websites are new and of low quality then definitely you can beat them but if those websites are of high authority then it is going to be very harder for you to outrank them.

You can use a free google chrome plugin, Moz Bar, it will show the DA and PA of all the ranking websites in Google SERPS.

You can also do a deep analysis of those websites by using SEO tools like SEMRush.

SEMRush will give you all the essential details about the website like its backlinks profile, Alexa ranking, ranking keywords, and many more.

So I recommend you to go with SEMRush if you are serious about your blogging career.

Summary

So before choosing a blog niche make sure the above criteria should be fulfilled by that niche, that means,

  • The niche should be of your interest
  • The niche should have enough audience
  • The niche should be less competitive

If all these criteria satisfy then you can start working on that niche.

So that’s how you choose a profitable niche that will earn you a lot of money. I hope you have enjoyed reading this article if you do then don’t forget to share it with your friends and family.

Cheers 😊
