So are you losing traffic by not focusing on SEO??

OF COURSE YESS!!, SEO is a free way to get traffic from search engines and if you are not using SEO then you are losing lots of free traffic.

So in this article, I will tell you my top 10 SEO tips that can help you to increase your website’s organic traffic.

Now for the absolute beginners who don’t know anything about SEO, let’s start from the beginning.

What Is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimization, which means optimizing your blog in such a way that it will rank higher in search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.

Oh, it seems easy, right?

But actually, it is not, SEO takes time, which means if you put in your efforts today then you will get results maybe after 3-4 months or even more depending upon your niche and competition.

Also, search engines like Google are really smarter these days, they constantly keep changing their algorithms so that they can serve the right content to their audience.

So SEO is dead?

Of course not, if you do it in the right way.

Why SEO?

Now you must be thinking “Oh come on, I am already getting thousands of visitors from my Pinterest Account, why I need to invest my time in SEO.. Blahhh.. Blahhh.. Blahhh”

That’s really great if you are already getting blog visitors from your social media but just imagine if you stop posting new pins on Pinterest for a month, what will happen?

Your traffic will decrease with a good amount, isn’t it?

And to gain continuous traffic from social media you have to keep posting and working on a daily basis.

But not in the case of SEO, once your article gets ranked, they will keep getting you thousands of traffic for years without any daily efforts.

The key rule to acquire top positions on Google is to produce the best content that no one has ever produced.

So in this article, I am going to share 10+ blog SEO tips that helped me to increase my organic traffic from Google in just 2 months.

10+ Blog SEO Tips For Beginners

1. Choosing Proper Keywords Before Writing Any Post

This is the most common mistake that most bloggers do, they never target keywords in their blog posts, that’s why they never get ranked on google.

Wait!!, What is a Keyword? And What I Mean By “Targeting A Keyword”?

Ok so let me explain to you in simple words, a keyword is a search query that a user types in google to find a relevant result.

For example, if you want to create an Etsy shop you will search on Google “how to create an etsy shop”. So this is a keyword.

If you see the screenshot above, you’ll see there is a total volume of 2,400 on this keyword, which means a total of 2,400 people are searching this keyword on Google every single month.

And if we create an article around that keyword and manage to rank it on the first page of Google, you can imagine that how much traffic we can bring in to our site by just using 1 keyword.

Now, if you want your blog post to acquire a higher ranking for the “how to create an etsy shop” keyword, you must target this keyword in your blog post.

Suppose if you want to rank for “how to create an etsy shop” but your blog post title is “How I Created My Etsy Shop From Beginning” you will never going to rank.

Targeting a keyword in a blog post means, adding that particular keyword in Title, Meta Description, Slug, or Inside Article body (With 1% Keyword Density)

We will talk about all of them later in this article.

How To Choose A Right Keyword?

For a beginner, the right keyword is the one that has very low competition and is easier to rank.

A single keyword will have a lot of competition than that of longer phrases.

The more specific and longer your keyword is, the easier it will be for you to rank for.

For example, “How to lose weight without doing cardio” is much easier to rank than just “Weight loss” or “How To Lose Weight”

To find such long-tail low competitive keywords, I personally use the Sem Rush tool.

2. Optimizing Your Post Title

So now you have finalized your keyword, now it’s time to use it in your post title.

There are 2 steps to make your Post Title Seo optimized,

  • Add your targeted keyword inside your post title, for better results try to add it at the beginning of the title.
  • Make your Post Title attractive and eye-catching, so that users will get attracted to it.

A perfectly SEO optimized title should look like this,

How To Create An Etsy Shop In 2022 (Step By Step Guide)

Now, as you can see I have added my main keyword at the beginning of the title and you can also notice that I have mentioned the current year as well so that it will tell the user that the content is fresh

And, I have also made it a little clickbait by adding (Step By Step Guide), which will grab user attention in the search results and increase your CTR rate.

3. Add Keyword In Slug

Wait!!

Now, what’s a slug?

Slug is nothing but a short user-friendly URL, which can be customized to include your targeted keyword. Here is an example.

www.yourdomain.com/how-to-start-an-etsy-shop

To make any changes to slug, you must have your permalinks settings set to “Post name”. you can do it by visiting your WordPress settings.

There are three ways to edit a slug on WordPress,

For classic editor users – Just click on the permalink present below the title and make your changes.

For Glutenberg editor user – Click on the document and scroll down to the bottom where it says permalink.

The third way to change your permalink is through Yoast SEO.

4. Optimize Your Meta Description

A meta description is a short summary of your article that is present under your title and can be seen on google search results.

Meta description plays a major role in SEO and in grabbing the user’s attention.

While writing a meta description for your blog post, you have to take care of two things.

  • You should include your main keyword and some related keyword i.e synonyms inside your meta description
  • The meta description should convey to the user what your post is all about so that the user will click on your result.

How to write a meta description?

You can use the Yoast SEO plugin, just scroll down to the bottom and you will see a meta description option in the Yoast SEO setting.

5. Focus On Your Blog’s Bounce Rate

The bounce rate is the percentage of people or visitors that leave your website after reading just one page. You can have an idea about the bounce rate from the scale given below.

26-40%: Awesome 😍
41-55%: Average 😁
56-70%: Higher than normal but maybe because of the niche 🤔
70% or higher: Bad. You need to figure it out. 😥

You can watch your blog’s bounce rate in Google Analytics and work accordingly.

Why Bounce Rate Is Important?

Bounce rate is one of the important factors that Google considers while ranking web pages on search results.

If your blog is having a poor bounce rate that means visitors are not happy with your blog and google won’t rank it.

How To Improve Bounce Rate?

Here are few tips that can help you improve your blog’s Bounce Rate

  • Make your pages/posts load faster (Optimize your blog speed)
  • Don’t use misleading Title, Meta Descriptions
  • Use small paragraphs while writing a blog post and make it more readable
  • Use proper headings, bullet points to explain your topic to your audience

6. Adding Related Terms In Your Blog Post

See, Google is a bot, it only understands the meaning of your blog post by keywords and phrases.

So by adding more and more keywords that reflect your main topic will provide you a good ranking boost.

For example related keywords of “how to start an etsy shop” can be.

how to start an etsy shop with no money

etsy shop names
how to get sales on Etsy

The best way to find related terms to your main keyword is by searching the main keyword on google and scrolling down to the bottom of Google search results.

You will find a Related Searches section.

7. Optimizing your Images

Your images also play a major role in your blog ranking. Images with bigger sizes increase your page loading time and google doesn’t like slow web pages.

So before uploading any image in your blog, make sure it is compressed. the smaller the size of the image, the faster your page loads.

You can this Jpeg compressor and Png compressor tools to compress your images.

Make sure you don’t over-compress your images, as it will decrease the image quality and provides a poor user experience.

Another way to optimize your images is by adding Alt text (Alternative Text) to your images.

Alt-text is the text that will be displayed if your image failed to load due to any reason.

Google also uses alternative text to populate its Images results when you’re searching for images.

That means if you have included your keyword in your image Alt Text then your images will also start ranking in Google Images and this will also bring traffic to your blog.

Both classic editor and Gutenberg editor come with an option to include Alt text for images so you don’t have to download any third-party plugin.

8. Adding Internal Links

Internal linking means, adding links of your previous posts into your current post. Make sure you only interlink your posts that are closely related to each other.

You can’t link the “How To Create An Etsy Shop” post with the “Best washing machines to buy” post. Make sure of relevancy while linking.

Linking will help your readers to know about your previous posts and if they are interested in that topic they will click that link and land on your other post.

This will divert your traffic from one post to another post and increase your page views.

More pageviews = More earning 😍😍

Linking also helps Google bots to understand better your overall blog and your content.

9. Adding External Links

When you link to some other relevant websites, that stands for external links. Linking to other relevant websites, that work in a similar niche will definitely gonna boost your rankings.

It also provides quality information to users that are mentioned by other websites.

Just make sure that whenever you are linking to other websites, then check “Open link in new tab“. It will open that link in a new tab and the visitor won’t leave your website.

This will increase your visitor deal time and your rankings also.

10. Creating Relevant Backlinks

If someone puts your webpage URL on their blog then it will count as a backlink. Backlinks are the major factor whenever it comes to ranking.

After doing all the 9 steps and after publishing great content, if you manage to get a few high-quality relevant backlinks from good websites then the ranking of your webpage will boost in no time.

Make sure that the websites that are linking back to you must be in the relevant niche, you cant afford backlink on a Health & Fitness blog from a Food Blog.

Take care of relevancy.

How you can create backlinks? You can use these methods to create backlinks.

  • Blog commenting (comment on relevant blog posts and leave your link there)
  • Guest post (Do guest post on other blogs with a similar niche)
  • Forums (Post threads on forums with a similar niche)
  • Quora And Reddit (Easiest way to get backlinks and initial traffic)

11. Content Is King

All the SEO tips that I have given in this article are of no value if the content you are writing is of poor quality.

Make sure the content you are writing should cover the topic in-depth and don’t copy anything from other blogs. Create your own 100% unique content.

Write longer content with proper formatting, use Headings and Subheadings. These are some of the characteristics of good content.

Conclusion

These are my best 11 SEO tips for beginners who are new to blogging and don’t know anything about SEO.

Just implement these tips and you will surely get results. You have to keep patience as SEO is a time taking process.

you won’t see any results for months, but once you started getting results, they will stay for years.
