How To Select a Layer In Canva

To select a layer in Canva, follow these steps:

1. Open your Canva design.
2. Navigate to the Layers panel using the method explained above.
3. The Layers panel lists all the elements in your design, arranged in ascending order from bottom to top.
4. To select a layer, click on its little preview in the Layers panel.
5. Alternatively, you can select a layer by clicking on the element itself on the canvas.
6. You’ll know a layer is selected by the bounding box that appears around it.

How To See Overlapping Layers In Canva

First of all, let me tell you what are overlapping layers, so let’s say we have an image of a rabbit here and it is overlapping 5 different layers beneath it which you can’t see because they are behind the rabbit image.

Now if you want to see all the layers present in the design you’ll go to the layers tab by following the previously mentioned steps and see all the layers in your design including the 5 overlapped layers, as you can see in the image below.

But if you want to see just the 5 layers that are being overlapped by the rabbit image all you have to do is click on the rabbit image and then head over to the “Position” tab then click on  “Layers” and then instead of select “All” you have to select “Overlapping” option.

Now you can see only the rabbit and 5 images that are overlapped by the rabbit image are visible, oh that little rabbit was hiding a lot of stuff !!

So that’s how you see overlapping layers in canva.

How Do You Change Layer Position/Order

There are 2 methods to change the layer position, both of them are very simple to follow.

Method 1: Using The Position Tab

Simply select your layer by clicking on it and go to the “Position” tab then make sure you are under Arrange section and now use the Forward, Backward, To front, To back options to arrange your selected layer.

Method 2: Using The Layers Tab

Head over to the layers tab and you will see a list of all the layers in your design, find your layer and simply drag and drop your layer in the layer panel where you feel comfortable.

How To Lock a Layer In Canva

In order to lock your layer in canva, follow these steps:

1. Open your Canva design.
2. Click on the layer that you want to lock or you can also locate the layer using the Layers tab.
3. Click on the three dots and under the lock option you’ll see 2 more options:

• Lock: It will completely lock the layer and you won’t be able to do anything with that layer
• Lock Position Only: It will lock only the position of that layer means you can’t move that layer but you can still do changes in that layer for eg. change the text & colors, edit the image properties, etc

Note: To unlock a layer simply click on the layer or select it from the layers tab and then click on that little “Lock Icon” from the top toolbar, your layer will be unlocked.

You can also flip the layer and even play with it’s opacity directly inside canva.

To see layers in canva mobile just open up the design in your canva app or you can also log in to canva in your mobile browser.

Select any layer to bring up the bottom menu, scroll to right and tap on “Layers”.

Now you’ll be able to see all the layers in the mobile version of canva as well.
