How To Make A Vision Board On Canva (2 Methods)

Here are 2 of my favorite methods to create a vision board with canva.

Method 1: Using Canva Vision Board Templates (Quick)

So if you don’t want to waste your time creating a vision board from scratch then this method is going to be perfect for you.

Here are the steps you can follow to create a vision board using canva vision board templates.

Step 1: Open Canva

The first step is to visit the official Canva website and log in with your account details.

You can do that by clicking on the login button and then selecting your preferred login method.

If you do not have a Canva account you can click on the Sign Up and create one for absolutely free.

Step 2: Search and Select a Vision Board Template

Once you are logged in, you can see the Canva dashboard with a lot of options.

Just ignore everything for now and focus on the search bar present in the middle of the screen that says “Search your content or Canva’s”.

Now type “vision board” in that search bar and hit enter on your keyboard.

Now you will see a lot of premade vision board templates created by other creators, just scroll through them and click on any one you like

Now, click on the “Customise This Template” button.

Step 3: Customize Your Template

After clicking on “Customize This Template” button, that particular template will be loaded in your canva editor where you can customize the template completely according to your needs.

You can change the text, images, colors, elements, etc.

For eg. if you want to edit a particular text, just click on it, hit backspace to delete the text, and then enter your new text in it.

Similarly, you can click on images and delete them and then add your own images by uploading them in canva using the “Upload” option from the left sidebar.

Step 4: Download The Vision Board

Once you are done with all the edits, you can now click on the “Share” button from the top right corner of the screen and then select the “Download” option from there.

Now select your file type, quality, and pages, and click on the “Download” button to download your vision board.

Now, you have got your vision board, you can now simply publish it wherever you want.

Method 2: Creating Vision Board From Scratch

In this method, you will be creating a vision board from scratch using a blank document inside Canva.

This is going to be time-consuming but here you can be more flexible as you will be designing your own template.

Step 1: Create a Blank Document

Ok, this time we are going to create a vision board from scratch without using any premade template inside Canva.

So to do that, firstly we have to create a blank document, you can do that by clicking on “Create a design” button from the top right corner of the screen.

Now, select your desired document type, for eg. if I am creating a vision board to post on my Instagram story, I will search for the Instagram story.

If you want to enter your custom dimensions for the vision board, you can do that too by clicking on the “Custom Size” button and then entering your own dimensions (length and breadth)

Step 2: Upload all Your Images To Canva

After creating the blank document, the next step is to upload all the images that you want to insert in your vision board to Canva.

You can do that by clicking on the “Upload” option from the left sidebar and then clicking on “Upload Files” and then choosing the image files from your system.

If you do not have your own images, you can also choose from canva itself.

Canva has a huge collection of stock images.

All you have to do is click on “Apps” from the left sidebar and then search for “Photos”.

There you can search stock photos according to your needs.

If you have decided to go with canva stock images then you don’t need to upload anything.

Step 3: Structure Your Vision Board (Using Canva Frames)

The main strength of a vision board is the structure itself, how all the images and text are positioned is what makes the vision board pop up.

So let’s create a basic structure for your vision board, we will use canva frames and grids for that purpose.

Click on the “Elements” tab from the left sidebar and search for “frames”, now drag and drop the frames that you want, these will act as a placeholder for our images.

You can also search for “grids” as these will make the job a lot easier cause grids are pre-formatted.

Step 4: Add a Background

Background is the most important part of your vision board as it is going to be the one holding all the elements together.

Choose a background image that goes well with your theme, you can use canva stock library images for backgrounds.

Just search for your desired background image or texture, and drag and drop it to your canvas and the image will be applied as a background.

Step 5: Drag And Drop Your Images Into Your Vision Board

When you are done with the basic structure, frames, and grid placement you are now ready to add your images to the vision board.

Just select the images that you have uploaded in step 2 and drag and drop it into the frames or grids one by one.

You can also resize your images by double click on the frame in which the image is sitting and then dragging the corners of the image using your mouse.

Step 5: Add Text and Decorative Elements

Finally, add some text and decorative elements to give your vision board a final touch.

Cursive and minimal fonts will work best for vision boards.

Decorative elements like tape strips, doodles, and shapes will really make your vision board pop.

All these elements can be found in the Canva elements library and you can access it from the left sidebar.

Step 6: Download It In Your Desired Format

Once everything is done, just give your vision board a final look and click on the “Share” button from the top right corner in order to download it.

Select your desired file type and quality and click on the blue “Download” button to start your download.

How To Make A Vision Board On Your Phone

If you don’t have access to a computer or if you prefer to work on your phone, then you can also make a vision board on your phone.

Fortunately, canva also has a mobile app that you can use to create your vision board.

The process is very simple and easy to follow. Just download the canva app from Play Store or from the Apple store and then you can follow the same steps that we have mentioned above to create a vision board inside canva.
